What is a root canal and why do I need one?
A root canal is a procedure that removes infected or damaged pulp tissue from inside the tooth, cleans and shapes the canal space, and seals it to prevent future infection. You may need a root canal if you have severe tooth pain, swelling, sensitivity to heat or cold, or a dental abscess. Root canals help save your natural teeth and relieve pain without extraction. Endodontic treatment helps you maintain your natural smile and limits the need for ongoing dental work.
What is an endodontist?
An endodontist is a dentist who specializes in diagnosing and treating problems with the pulp or root of the tooth. Endodontists complete two or more years of advanced training (after dental school) focused on root canal treatment, microsurgery, and pain management. Endodontists are uniquely qualified to evaluate whether your tooth can be saved.
Are root canals painful?
Most endodontic procedures (including root canals) are performed to relieve patient pain. Most patients report that they are comfortable during root canal procedures. Many patients also report tooth sensitivity for several days after the procedure. At Sound Endodontics, we use advanced, gentle techniques to ensure you are relaxed and comfortable throughout the procedure.
Why should I save my natural teeth?
Saving your natural teeth should be your first choice whenever possible. No denture, bridge or implant will look, feel, and function as well as a natural tooth.
What is a Board-Certified Endodontist?

Why was I referred to an endodontist?
Your general dentist referred you to us because your tooth requires specialized care. Dr. Kim Do and the team at Sound Endodontics use advanced imaging, operating microscopes, and precision instruments to treat complex cases safely and efficiently.
How long does a root canal take?
Most treatments are completed in one visit, typically lasting 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the complexity of the tooth. Occasionally, a second visit may be needed for retreatment or if infection is severe. Our 3D imaging and microscope-assisted techniques help shorten treatment time and improve outcomes.
Will I need a crown after a root canal?
In most cases, yes. A crown strengthens and protects your tooth after treatment. Your general denstist will design and place this final restoration once your root canal is complete.
Do you take my insurance?
We work with many major dental insurance companies and we will be happy to help you understand your coverage before treatment. If you have insurance, our team will estimate your financial responsibility and collect that portion on the day of service. Upon completion of services, we will submit a claim to your insurance company. Any remaining balance after insurance has paid is your responsibility and we will send you a statement. Please bring your insurance information to your first office visit.
What if I'm having a dental emergency?
If you have severe tooth pain, swelling, or trauma, call our office immediately. We reserve time daily for emergency root canal care and do our best to see urgent cases the same day.
